Imagine yourself, writing your own book and publish it to anyone who is willing to read your own novel. Simply said, this is what MyBestSeller.com stands for. MyBestSeller is an internet platform that enables people to bring their own book on the market – without any intervention of a publisher. The platform is focuses on the so-called ‘second league’, where publisher have their focus on the ‘champions league’ among authors and writers. However, could this idea be successful?

MyBestSeller is a platform where the focus is on the niche-market of book selling. The so-called ‘long-tail’ of the product books is thereby served. Moreover, approximately 99% of manuscripts are rejected. Therefore, those 99% are a great opportunity for MyBestSeller to serve. People who want publish their book have a new platform where they can accomplish this. The revenue model is similar to for example an agent broker, where MyBestSeller gets a share of every sold book. I can imagine that people that have writing as a hobby are happily surprised with the opportunity to sell their own written book online. Beyond the fact that MyBestSeller can act as an intermediary for those self-proclaimed writer, there exists a downside. The big question here is: Are there people who are willing to pay for a book written by an anonymous person?

For me personally, I think that there is a great opening in the market. Firstly, among the 99% rejected manuscripts, I think there is a great chance that there are also good quality and popular books among them. Everyone can be a creative person, where some are more creative than others. However, I think there is always someone who is willing to pay for a story written by an anonymous person, because the subject can be of interest of the potential buyer. In short, what is your opinion about MyBestSeller.com and the opportunity they are creating for self-proclaimed writers? Do you think that there is a way this platform can be successful in the future, or is it doomed to fail?

  1. Hi Hans, firstly I want to mention that I think you wrote a great blog. But I think I’m a bit more sceptical than you are when it comes to whether MyBestSeller will be succesfull. First of al I think that people who publish books most of the time have a lot of experience in picking books to publish so I believe the ones rejected are rejected for a reason. Second of all I think that it takes quiet some time before you determined whether you like a book or not when you’re reading it, and I just don’t believe that most people are willing to take that the risk of often not liking books because it takes a lot of time. However I do believe that this means more access to books on very different and specific subjects which is a big advantage for MyBestSeller according to me
