Technology and football

Back in the days, when I was 12 years old (10 years ago), I always went outside to play football with my friends on a football field. I noticed that after the arrival of smartphones and other technological developments (iPads or PS5), the football fields are completely empty. It made the children of this generation very lazy. However, technology also ensures sports to develop and making it more interesting.

One example is the football industry where Sports Innovation Partner, together with Elite Skills Arena Benelux developed new innovative training tools, which totally disrupted the industry in the last few years. The training tools are called ICON, Circuit and the Precision Wall. Big clubs such as Liverpool FC and FC Barcelona started to use these technological developments. It ensures players to develop their physical and technical performance, and their tactical qualities. Famous football players like Zlatan Ibrahimović and Cristiano Ronaldo also joined these trainings and data from these players are also stored. These new training tools store data from everyone who have performed the training.

This brings a total new perspective to football. Back in the days, when there were no such technological training tools who kept data from every football player, everything was based on intuition. There was a chance that football players were underrated or maybe even overrated their whole career. The new training tools like ICON will help the coach by deciding which players are the best and who he should let play in the match. Moreover, it will help by developing the players. Let’s say that the results of the training tools suggest that the speed of thinking of a player is too slow, then the coach of that player can focus on that particular part and help with developing that player. These training tools focus on many skills of a player such as the shooting skills, passing skills, thinking skills and more. This new technology is surely a disruptive innovation, because nowadays every decision of a coach can be based on data from the training tools, and the development of a player will be faster and better than ever before.
