Recently my attention has been strongly drawn to ChatGPT-3.5, developed by OpenAI in late 2022. A generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool that serves as a prominent example of how an AI language model can have a significant influence on society (Zhai, 2022). In this blog, I will critically assess my encounters with ChatGPT, connecting my observations with existing literature and knowledge. The core objective is to facilitate discussions within the Business Information Management community.
My Experiences
My initial interactions with ChatGPT were profoundly intriguing. These first experiences resonate with existing literature, which has also debated the tool’s remarkable capacity to generate coherent and contextually relevant text with valuable insights (Baidoo-Anu & Ansah, 2023) and explain complex concepts in detail to give clarity (Malinka et al., 2023, p. 52). Aditionally, it has the potential to significantly enhance the learning process, particularly in education (Malinka et al., 2023, p. 52). Malinka et al. (2023) stated that the tool can effectively assume the role of a teaching assistant (p. 52).
Limitations of the Tool
As I delved further into my investigation, I noticed some problems with the tool. ChatGPT sometimes gave incorrect answers that did not have enough detail or went off-topic (Baidoo-Anu & Ansah, 2023). Grassini (2023) also pointed out limitations in education. These include concerns about unfair academic competition between students who use the tool and those who do not; and significant problems with detecting plagiarism. AI models like ChatGPT can trick traditional plagiarism detectors (pages 4-7).
Conclusion: A Call for Ethical Awareness and Critical Thinking
While my exploration of ChatGPT has yielded positive experiences, it has also brought to light significant limitations. This underscores the imperative need for ethical awareness, transparency, and continuous research regarding the impact of AI on sectors such as education, healthcare, and business.

In your insightful blog post, you offer a comprehensive examination of your encounters with ChatGPT-3.5 and the far-reaching implications it holds for various sectors, notably in education and content creation. I commend your efforts to shed light on both the capabilities and constraints of ChatGPT. It is crucial to acknowledge that while AI language models such as ChatGPT can be potent instruments, they are not without flaws and may produce erroneous or irrelevant responses at times. Personally, I have observed that contextual dependence plays a significant role in shaping the accuracy of input interpretation by this AI tool. Consequently, users should exercise caution and verify whether ChatGPT has accurately grasped their inputs before proceeding further.
