“Creativity is a process our brains could go through to see a problem in a new light and find a solution that works outside the bounds of the standard approach” (Singer, 2023). Tools like ChatGPT are making a significant impact because they go beyond assisting the creation of content. They play a major role in aiding research, brainstorming, and even the initial stages of prototyping, which contributes to the concrete aspect of an creative process.

On the one hand you could say that people will always remain better at nuancing specific topics than ChatGPT (Atkins, n.d.). But on the other hand it could also be that our general focus point as humans needs to change. Instead of focussing on creative skills, maybe we should focus more on analytical skills. When looking at it through a “business glass”, combining the individual creative thought with ChatGPT can lead to the type of transformative change that drives certain growth (Singer, 2023) It could be that the functional role of the human is going to change forever. We are already automizing a tremendous amount of products and services.

According to ChatGPT, the tool will not kill creativity when it is used judiciously and in combination with human creativity and critical thinking. ChatGPT also notes that “overreliance on such tools without personal input or critical thinking can potentially stifle creativity”.

Maybe humans will more and more get a “controller” role instead of this “creator” role. If we want to keep creativity into our society we need to ask ourselves: How can I use this tool to be more creative?

  1. Hi Jippe, thank you for your insteresting post! Your title of your post caught my attention, because up until now I have never really thought of it that way. While I saw the positive impact AI has by being able to generate ideas, paintings or even music, I have not really thought of the negative impact. When I come to think of it, I have been less creative since I started using ChatGPT, since it easily generates examples for me. Therefore, I agree with that humans might get a “controller” roll. Being able to completely utilize ChatGPT’s creative ability’s in combination with human creativity and critical thinking might be the best alternative when looking to the future. To comment on your question: “How can I use this tool to be more creative?”, I think that will be very hard to do since it is so easy to rely on ChatGPT, but taking the “controller” role might be the best option. Because I do not have a answer, I will answer your question with a question. “Is using the tool ChatGPT to be more creative more limited than relying on your creative mind. or will it eventually exceed our creative mind?”
