The arrival of widespread AI use with -among others-implications like students using AI help for writing their thesis/assignments (like ChatGPT), musicians using AI help for the creation of their music (like Amper), and artists using AI help for the creation of new art creativity (like Midjourney), has gained huge attention during the past few years. Until so far, nothing new. Though, the use of AI tools raises an important two-folded question related to either stimulation or reduction of human creativity.

Many individuals express concerns about the potential negative impact of excessive reliance on machines (like AI), fearing it may diminish our intelligence and hinder our human capacity for predominantly critical and creative thinking. To elaborate, sometimes even without aware thinking, I hear the sentence “Oh, I will use ChatGPT for that”. And I assume this is imaginable for you as a reader as well. ChatGPT manifests itself (without noticing) as one of the most used tools in education, sometimes spreading false information which users are not always aware of. People (students, writers etc.) extensively use AI tools (as mentioned in the introduction), whilst referring to the inspirational aspect it has for our human creativity to depart from.

In my opinion this is a bit arbitrary. Factchecking with real life cases is sometimes neglected by its users, and so is human creativity as the copy-paste method is popular among AI-tool users. Often again without noticing.

Though on the other hand, collaboration with AI tools can provide a valuable opportunity for humans to concentrate on vital tasks, enhancing our personal development and productivity. Let alone creativity enhancement. With AI being used as ally or partner of the brain, we can progress in domains like music creation, art creation and education, all while freeing up leisure time and energy for our personal interests. But this can be done only under the condition, that we remain evaluating AI’s output critically ourselves. “Ally” and “partner oof the brain” should be the key considerations when using AI tools.

I hope you guys are willing to share your opinions and experiences about this subject. As there is neither a good nor a false answer to the raised question, I am happy to hear what you think with regards to either a stimulation or a reduction in human creativity caused by AI usage.
