Nowadays it’s almost impossible to miss all the conflicts that currently take place in the world. Currently we live in a highly digitalized world with more than 110 ongoing conflicts and access to a vast amount of options to share information. This creates an abundance of data which makes it even harder to find and filter out the most relevant and reliable information regarding ongoing conflicts (Geneva Academy, z.d.). Live Universal Awareness Map, also known as Liveuamap has solved this problem by changing the way we consume information about- and track events related to conflicts worldwide.
Let’s start with a little bit of general info about liveuamap. Liveuamap is an online platform which uses AI algorithms to gather data from a variety of sources, such as social media, news sites, and official publications, and then analyzes and categorizes this data to produce dynamic news reports. With real-time updates, in-depth maps, and interactive elements that improve the user experience, the platform can provide users with a comprehensive and up-to-date perspective of conflicts thanks to its AI-driven methodology. Its results are in turn shared by providing the user with a world map filled of a wide range of recent events including the AI’s and experts’ interpretation of the event, images, videos, and URL’s to the original source, allowing full transparency.
As I always have been really interested in what happens around the world, I was really enthused when I found out about the release of liveuamap. At first, I sometimes spend hours scrolling through loads of articles and social media posts (and that excludes fact-checking). But after the release of this platform I not only instantly benefited from the amount of time saved from scrolling through data, thanks to the AI I got access to the most recent updates whenever I wanted to. In my opinion again a great example of how AI can improve our world of information. This also got me wondering about the potential use cases of AI in the future regarding to event monitoring. I would love to hear your opinions on that.
