Everyone is now probably familiar with generative AI and has most likely used it recreatively by now. However, to what extent is generative AI structurally usable in the office? Obviously, this largely depends on the context of the job and the industry. However, one can assume gen AI has at least some sort of application in any job where writing text/reports is necessary. Therefore, I have asked some of my friends about their experiences. As mentioned in the title, I will go into detail on the report from an editor for an online magazine.
The online magazine the editor works for had always used the same way of working. Each day of the week was structured into 12 “post moments” at which a new article had to be posted on the website. Since they want to report on the actualities, the articles had to be largely written on the same day as they would be posted. You can imagine that this results in a highly stressful environment, with enormous pressure to finish each article before the posting moment. Therefore, they are currently experementing with the use of AI written articles to relieve some of this pressure. However, the use of gen AI has a significant downside. Already, multiple articles fully written by AI posted on the website have been receiving large amounts of critique about factual errors, leaving my friend in distress. An obvious solution would be to fact-check the AI written article, but this would require a sort of peer-review structure, minimizing the efficiency gains posed by gen AI.
To answer one of the questions you might have after reading this; I am unfortunately not allowed to disclose which AI they use, however it does have access to the internet. What do you think? How could they improve their way of working with the use of gen AI?
