I’ve never considered myself a musical type, and had already given up on ever producing music myself in this life. That was until I discovered Suno AI, the state-of-the-art AI sing-and-song writer that allows you to create your own songs from a prompt. Suno AI allows you to indicate what kind of song you want, what lyrics should be included and what instruments should be employed in the creation of your song. Subsequently Suno AI will create a song for you, stricly adhering to these prompts.

For me, it serves as a way to creatively express my musical ideas as well as to mess around with my friends and family, composing songs about them. Funnily enough, I created a song about our ‘village’ and my mother thought it sounded familiar and prompted me to tell her the title of the song. Her and my dad were shocked when they discovered the whole song was created by AI and stated that they might even want a personalized song on their funeral if the quality increases.

Whilst Suno AI is already relatively impressive, there are definitely some points of improvement that I can demarcate. First, the audio does not sound as clear as spotify-grade songs. Further, the pronunciation of some words are not correct and should be correctable by allowing phonemes in the prompt, like SSML allows (Microsoft, 2024).

Despite the great potential of this tool and the fun you can have with it, there are also some moral questions that should be considered when using it. First, Suno has admittedly trained their text-to-music model on artists’ work that have never implicitly or explicitly gave permission to use their songs for training purposes (Tencer, 2014), whilst it does endanger their livelihood. This personally would refrain me from using the songs of Suno AI in a commercial setting.

Try Suno AI out yourself at https://suno.com/ and let me know whether you are impressed with the songs you have created. Also what do you guys think of the moral dilemma.

Lastly, dont forget to check out the first Information Strategy song, to my knowledge:
