Dyson is one of the main leaders in household cleaning devices, especially in vacuum cleaners. However, Dyson decided to start vacuuming some marketplaces in the field of agriculture. Correlation between departments couldn’t be more off, but Dyson took its chances and it paid off. A venture into the strawberry market has presented a great opportunity for Dyson to reinvent themselves as a company. Now they are on path to produce the perfect strawberry setting a new milestone on the digital era.

The all-year-round harvesting

Since the beginning of agricultural practices, there have always been seasons for harvesting, but technology has changed that forever. Now, most vegetables and fruits can be grown at any time in the revolutionary greenhouses with the aid of tech. For instance, Dyson has managed a combination of robotics, data-driven systems, and automation and AI. It is truly fascinating that the greenhouses are used to cultivate strawberries. The inside? Straight up Sci-Fi content inspiration. Large white hangar-type storage where robotic arms pick up inside-grown strawberries while AI-powered image recognition is used to determine if the product is at its peak ripeness for collection. The AI also adjusts the climate and control within the greenhouses and sets the optimal temperature, humidity, and even CO2 levels to achieve the best strawberries one can produce. Everything. At. It’s. Peak. Furthermore, there is no space for pests and diseases inside the AI-driven Structure. A UV-emitting robot, probably a distant cousin of WALL-E, uses its light to kill any signs of mold, and other robots that release not pesticides but insects that kill any threatening pest. Just like a Huntsman spider in a countryside house in Australia, no harmful insects will roam around freely without meeting a fierce hunter. And if that wasn’t enough, AI powers its systems to ultimate performance. From vertical structures that shun light onto the strawberries to irrigation systems that use rainwater to shower the fruit, AI is the Zeus of that harvest compound. Agriculture like we have never seen before, all done by a… Vacuum company. A reminder that in the times of technology, anyone can succeed if they put their minds to objectives.

Giving Flowers to those who deserve it:

I know that I praised AI a lot in this post, but behind every powerful AI use is a team of tech engineers. Without them, Dyson would never be able to venture into the creation of the perfect strawberry. One gamble, a near-perfect product.

2025: Big Brother is at the doorstep

A few years ago I picked up a book I found at my parents’ house and gave it ago. The title “1984” printed in big bold letters drew my attention and the first page retained it. I was mesmerzed by this fictional yet not so distant distopic reality George Orwell wrote about. The powerful surveilling, the masses manipulated to be kept in line, cameras watching every step they take.

Testing Phase:

Seems crazy to think about it in a time where we value freedom of speech so much; nevertheless, baby step by baby step, we seem to get tested on our obedience. And one big change has rekindled my memories about the book, our powerful companion, AI. The AI community is divided into 3 groups: The optimists, the deniers, and the skeptics. I admittedly belong to the last one. I love and at the same time fear the power of AI. It can make my dreams and ideas come true in seconds, but it can also be devastating and terrifying if it falls into the wrong hands. Now, after recent news in the UK of the Introduction of Digital IDs and the European Commission proposal for access to private chats in the name of “security”, what I feared just got closer to reality. Fueled by the UK’s prime minister’s proposal for the use of technological and AI systems to link all our documentation and access to our bank accounts, and the EU’s scheduled voting for the 14th of October to access private messages, concerns me. But this begs the question…

Who is powering this?

Let’s talk about Palantir, a company that offers data analytics platforms that aid governments and businesses in reading Vast and complex data sets in order to find solutions and make decisions. At first doesn’t seem very harmful, right? Just a tool to make businesses and governments more efficient, but reality ain’t always black and white. Moreover, it is one of the leading companies on the innovation of data analysis and storage through AI systems For example, the numerous contracts with US defense ministery, intelligence community, links to Snowden’s NSA’s massive data privacy exposure, and support of AI tools in military contexts for Israel concering actions in the Gaza strip show the frightening reality that AI heads for if kept in the wrong hands. Oppression, terror, misinformation, and censorship are not new to mankind, but are escalating once again and threatening to plunge the globe once again into dark times that we have witnessed in the past. So let’s…

Cherish the Present but defend the Future.

In 2025, “1984” seems to be more relevant than ever. We are sold the dream that AI will facilitate our workloads and achieve our dreams, but subsequently also take away our freedom. It is frightening, invasive, and we seem to get no say on it. Let’s learn from the past and advocate for a better future, or else be ready to welcome Big Brother…

If you haven’t read this book, I urge you to do it; if you have, let me know if you see any resemblance with today’s reality.

5/5 (1)
Imagine you are scrolling down on your favourite social media and check the post of some famous user you admire and see some negative comments with misinformation. You go straight into proving that person wrong and start a debate, what if I told you there is 50% chance you are arguing with a Bot, crazy right? You spent all that energy and emotional response on something that does not have a conscience. But you might be wondering, what is a bot? It is essentially an automated software designed to perform certain tasks. It is one of the most common outcomes and practices for the use of AI on the internet.
Disruptive Innovation? Yes. Dangerous? Most definitely.
The fact that over 50% of online activity derives from Bots is highly concerning raising questions on if the Disruptive Innovation of AI is highly dangerous for internet users. Scams, Fraud, Identity theft, and Misinformation spread are among the problems one must deal with when accessing the internet. Notoriously, Misinformation on the internet has been one of the most concerning dangers that has risen in an unprecedented manner. Propaganda fuelling extremism on the right and left has risen due to this, ideological conflicts have become more tense, and political disinformation has increased immensely. The owners of these bots own ”Bot Farms” that attack any current topic and account with the press of a touch all while in disguise as real human beings. Consequently, luring people into dangerous perspectives. The underground market has become very large to the point where governments are involved in hopes of shifting the global political landscape to benefit them. A truly dystopic feeling brews silently if regulations and cybersecurity can’t keep up with the fast emergence of Bots that each day become smarter. Celebrate AI, beware the future.
