Guys, I found an interesting article talk about the best time period to post on Facebook. Thanks to the spread of various mobile devices and applications, the schedule people check the Facebook is totally different from that in the past, both the duration and frequency increase dramatically. According to some studies and statistics, the author, Danielle, has summarized the good and bad time for a Facebook post:

√ Early morning

χ During work (9am – 5pm)

√ Between work and dinner

χ After dinner (TV time)

√ Bedtime

χ Weekends

But the bottom line is that the best time to post on Facebook is when your audience will see it. So it will differ from person to person to use the best time. There is one general rule: Always know your audience. Which means in order to have the most attention you have to figure out who they are, what their schedule for Facebook and choose the time when they are online to make your post.

And there are two steps you can use to see whether past posting times re working effectively by using Facebook Insights. First you go to export the “Post level data” from Facebook Insights for your preferred time period. And then open the Post level data in Excel within the “Lifetime Post Stories by action” tab and delete all columns except D, H, I, J, and K. then you can see the result.

Homework Week 5 – online social networks

For this week’s assignment, the two examples I come up with are Renren and Weibo. The Renren Network is a Chinese social networking service platform has similar function with Facebook. It is very popular among college students. Sina Weibo is a China-based micro-blogging service platform. Its surprising transmission capacity makes it the most popular SNS in China.

As two leading social network sites, Renren Network and Sina Weibo run in different forms to help people connect.

First of all, the lifespan of their content is different. The valid period of a renren post is always longer than a Weibo post. statistically, most of the activities or engagement in Weibo happens within the first hour after its posting, which means the effective lifespan of a Weibo post is normally one hour. However, the interaction happens on Renren always last longer, even for days.

Secondly, they serve for different functions. Renren is more used to manage relationship, while Weibo is more used to track events. Renren allows people to keep in touch with families and friends; and Weibo helps people follow interesting topics and news. So basically, Renren focused more about people, and Weibo focused more about things.

Thirdly, timeliness, as an important attribute for online news, matters differently for Renren and Weibo. The content of a Weibo post always involves in instant news or real-time conversation, which is changing constantly. But Renren engages more in timeless statement or ongoing discussion.

<a href="” title=”3 Habits of Highly Successful Social Media”>3 Habits of Highly Successful Social Media

I recently found a video about making successful social media successful. In this video, the presenter shared with us 4 tips. He first pointed out that social media is all about digital presence and engaging with market.

The first tip is Keep it in Context. There are so many devices and channels nowadays we use to connect people, we must make sure the message we send is suitable for the channel. Sometimes not the message itself should be focused on, but also the manner in which they are being used.

The second point is to Use Data to Make Decisions. Choosing the right tool get correct information is key, as different tool are designed for different purpose. What’s more, for successfully making decision, we have to set correct criteria of success, like 500 likes means success.

The third tip is to Be Your Audience. It is highly recommended to engage with your audience or customers, to become an active member in their conversation,

Last but not least, we should Engage Specifically. Not every customer is of the same importance. We should use some social media tools to figure out the ones talking about us the most, and than get them involved into our social media strategy, and connect with their followers.

I think the tips are quite useful, it does provide me some guild in using social media. What do you think?
