For the first time in history there is a woman who uses YouTube to find a kidney.

The waiting time for a kidney is in the Netherlands around 700 man long.
The 38 year old woman Razia Santoe has to go 3 times a week to hospital for dialysis.

Also her son of 6 is often wondering “mom are you going to die?”.

Because it is not easy to get a kidney, she decided to start a commercial on YouTube to collect money and hopefully get a kidney.

The big question is: is this the new way to find a donor for kidneys and other human parts?

I think it is a big step forward because a new mass of people will realize the need for organ transplantations and hopefully the waiting time for a new organ will be shortened.

Hopefully she will find a donor by this commercial on YouTube.

Do you think that this is the new way for finding donors?

  1. I think this concept is very interesting. The woman in the video is trying to find a kidney donor through social media platform – YouTube, which is quite rare and modern at the same time. It is obvious that she understands one of the significant features of social media, which is ‘fast’. It means spreading information on social media platforms can be easier to reach a large amount of audiences in a shorter time. This situation can really benefit her since she needs a kidney as soon as possible. However, I have to say, I don’t get any strong feelings or connections after I watched this video. I understands that she loves her life and she really wants to get help, but to be honest, I don’t think random people will donate their kidneys just based on this video. It is hard to say whether it is an effective way to find a donor or not, since donating organs are not simple, easy thing to do. Moreover, nowadays, most of social media contents are still very superficial or entertaining. For example, the “ALS” Ice Bucket challenge is going various online recently. It is much easier to just put cold water from the head compared to this case. However, how many people take this challenge to really show their concerns to ALS patients and donate their money to the organizations than just to do a fun video. Yes, it is never easy to raise serious awareness among the mass, but I believe more and more people are working on it. In the end, I simply hope this woman can find her donor soon!
