In any course in your bachelor or master’s you are presented with a variety of learning materials, ranging from lectures and readings to videos and interactive simulations. But what happens when the format of the learning materials does not align with your personal learning style? My preferred style is learning from text on paper, so the shift to online video lectures presented itself as a challenge. I find it more difficult to engage with the content and retain the information. That is until I started to experiment with generative AI.

The solution I found has been surprisingly simple. I use AI tools to transcribe course videos. This allows me to engage with this material in a way that works best for me: highlighting, taking notes and physically interacting with the text. This small change has changed my learning process, making it more efficient and effective.

My personal experience is just an example of the broader potential of how AI can create personalized learning materials. AI powered tools can adapt educational content to every student’s individual needs and learning styles. Course materials can be easily converted into any format you prefer, be it podcasts for auditory learners, text for readers, or even an interactive format.

The rise of generative AI is not just about creating new content; it is also about personalizing existing content to fit our own needs. My simple practice of transcribing videos is just one example. This has allowed me to take control of my education in a way that was not possible a couple of years ago.

I am curious to hear from other students. Have you used AI to personalize course content?

  1. This really resonates with me! I’ve also realized that I learn much more effectively when the material is in a format that suits my learning style. Using AI to transcribe lectures is such a clever way to make digital learning more personal! Would you mind sharing which AI tool do you use for this purpose?

I mainly use AI to summarize readings and to explain difficult concepts through real-life examples, it really helps me understand and remember the material better. For this I’m mainly using ChatGPT, it has really become my study buddy 🙂 It’s great to see how these tools can make studying feel more tailored and engaging. I feel like we are really privileged to have access to all of this during our study.
