How ChatGPT Has Helped Me Stay Organized

Over the past months, I have been using ChatGPT to help manage my study and work schedules, and it has become an essential part of how I stay organized. For example, when working on my bachelor thesis, I asked ChatGPT to draft a detailed timeline that included interim deadlines, the tasks I needed to complete, and when each part of the project should be finished. This structure helped me stay on track throughout the entire process and made a large, complex task feel much more manageable.

Beyond my thesis, I regularly use ChatGPT to create weekly to-do lists. I input my planned activities, deadlines, and even personal chores, and the AI organizes them into a clear plan. Having this overview helps me prioritize tasks effectively and maintain a balanced workflow.

What I find particularly useful is ChatGPT’s flexibiltity. I can adjust deadlines, add new tasks, or rearrange priorities, and it quickly updates my schedule accordingly. I have also started using it for practical daily tasks. For instance, when cooking, I can ask ChatGPT how to adapt measurements or suggest replacements for ingredients I don’t have. Similarly, I can ask which cleaning supplies work best for specific tasks or surfaces, helping me clean more efficiently. I find this works much better than searching on search engines like Google, because it provides concise answers rather than overwhelming me with pages of information that I would then have to filter myself.

Additionally, I even used ChatGPT to help generate the cover image for this blog post. By describing the scene and elements I wanted, I was able to quickly create a visual that represents my experience with ChatGPT, saving me the time I would have spent on creating this image myself. When I reflect on all the ways I use generative AI, it becomes clear how much time it has saved me. Tasks that would normally require extenisive planning or manual work are now streamlined, which has helped me boost my productivity and manage my responsibilites much more effectively.

How do you use AI in your daily routines? Have you found it to be helpful, or do you prefer doing these tasks manually?

  1. Interesting post Julia! Firstly, your cover image is really inviting and fits your blog well. Secondly, I enjoyed reading about how you use AI and how you have integrated it into your daily life. Especially how you use AI as a tool to help you stay organized is effective. You inspired me to try creating weekly to-do lists with AI as well. I never thought about including all my tasks, even personal chores, in a weekly to-do list but it makes sense. I can see how that can give a clear schedule and help with productivity.
In addition, I’ve also used ChatGPT for baking once when I decided to make pancakes spontaneously and didn’t have all the ingredients at home. I suggested replacements like adding Greek yoghurt to make them healthier, and with the right measurements the pancakes turned out really nice! For me, the best part of using AI in cooking and baking is how it helps with the measurements. That way you can still get the perfect dish without messing it up because the proportions are not right. I also agree that it’s great for cleaning advice, especially with a particular material like leather. Finally, asking AI is definitely less overwhelming than searching on Google. It almost feels like asking a person for advice.
Overall, I think it is wonderful that we can use AI as a kind of personal assistant, this way we save time and it makes our everyday tasks easier.

  2. I think you should host a workshop on how you do this! I am really interested in the prompt you put in. Just like you, I input the tasks that need to be finished and their deadlines, and then ask ChatGPT to come up with a timeline. For me, it is hard to follow the arrangements and schedule it gave to me, so I usually end up giving up and putting more pressure on myself for not following the plan. There must be something wrong. Maybe I did not specify the time I need for a certain task, or I am just bad at time management, and even GenAI could not help with that.

It is really good that you successfully made ChatGPT your personal assistant, so you have more time thinking about important issues and coming up with innovative ideas! Congratulations on finishing your bachelor’s thesis, by the way!

  3. Hey Julia. I find it interesting that you use Chat GPT to organise yourself. I have personally never realised that it could be used for this but does make sense. My honest opinion is that I do believe that you are over relying on Chat GPT. I understand it does facilitate but our greatest strength as humans is to be able to adapt to situations. I guess it is a weird question but how will you adapt if Chat GPT was offline or if you couldn’t use it for a week. Maybe you learned subconsciously how to plan yourself, how to cook when an ingredient is missing ?
