In the digital age, the influence of AI on various creative industries, including music, has been nothing short of revolutionary. As an AI enthusiast, I’ve decided to delve into the world of AI-powered tools, in order to explore the following question: ‘can anyone become an artist in the age of AI?’ The answer, as I’ve discovered through my own experiences, is a yes.

The AI Songwriting Companion
Imagine sitting down to write your next hit song, and instead of struggling with writer’s block, you have an AI songwriting companion by your side. Tools like OpenAI’s GPT-3 and Jukedeck have made this a reality. These AI-powered platforms can assist in generating lyrics, suggesting melodies, and even have the ability to compose music tailored to your style. For instance, when I used GPT-3, it effortlessly generated lyrics that resonated with my vision for the song. I used CPT-3 to write some lyrics in the style of a certain artist. It understood the essence and incorporated some common themes found in the artist’s music, such as ambition, perseverance, and personal reflection.

Co-Production with AI
AI isn’t limited to songwriting; it extends to the production phase as well. AI-based production tools like Amper Music can assist in creating backing tracks, adding instrumentation, and refining your sound. These tools analyse your style and preferences, allowing you to co-produce music that’s uniquely yours.
I experimented with Amper Music, and it helped me craft a dynamic backing track that complemented the lyrics and melody. The result was an almost professional-quality production that I would never have been able to achieve on my own.

Voice Alteration and Vocal Enhancement
However, one of the aspects of AI in music that suprised me the most is the ability to alter or completely replace your own voice. Different tools, like Voicify.AI, offer text to speech functionalities in order to make the song sound like it was recorded by your favourite artist. I tried this, and it transformed my song to emulate a famous artist, adding a captivating dimension to the song music.

Empowering Creative Independence
AI tools for music empower independent artists like never before. They allow you to explore your creativity without the need for an entire team of writers, producers, and vocal coaches. While AI can certainly assist in various aspects of music creation, it’s essential to remember however that it should be a tool for enhancing your artistic vision, not a substitute for it.

In conclusion, the age of AI has opened up exciting possibilities for aspiring independent music artists. With AI songwriting companions, co-production tools, and voice alteration capabilities, virtually anyone can embark on a musical journey, regardless of their background or resources.

  1. Very interesting Blog post. It is fascinating to see how AI is revolutionizing the music industry! The idea of having an AI songwriting companion can be a game-changer for any artist. I myself recently looked into AI in the music industry and was shocked when I found a source stating that 59.5% of artists already use AI to optimize their songs (https://press.dittomusic.com/60-of-musicians-are-already-using-ai-to-make-music).
I agree with you that AI should only be used only to assist artist and not replace them. Especially since in April this year the song “Heart on My Sleeve“ was released, allegedly featuring Drake and The Weeknd, but it was only a replication of their voices made with the support of AI tools.

    1. I also really like this blog post and I think it is very interesting. I think with AI in general, it would be interesting if companies and industries would be more transparent about how much AI is used and in what ways. When talking about voice cloning, I especially think it is important to be transparent about the usage of AI, and that consumers or listeners know beforehand that it is indeed voice cloning and not the real artists
